History of the 1970’s US Mail Uniform:
The 1970 U.S. Mail uniforms mark a significant shift in the history of postal worker attire, coinciding with the formation of the United States Postal Service (USPS) in July 1971. Prior to this change, the Post Office Department was a cabinet-level government agency, but the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 transformed it into a self-sustaining independent establishment. This reorganization was reflected in the uniforms.
